Abarth 500 Bonnet Hood Vents

The Abarth 500 is a small fast car that produces a whole bunch of power out of a 1.4litre turbo charged engine.

Not just a small engine, but a very small engine bay to match. Ask any mechanic with big hands to work on your Abarth 500 and he's sure to be cursing as he gets out the band aids for all the cuts he has sustained from working in the tight space.

The efficient use of space in the engine bay and the rest of the car has allowed Abarth to re-invent the classic 500 design into todays stylish version. This of course gives the Abarth 500 its fantastic appeal. Small, Stylish and Fast.

As with most turbo charged engines keeping heat to a minimum is a major factor in running the most efficient and powerful setup.

As we see on the original Abarth 500 Assetto Corse Race car, 190 bhp, (edit M.Aron) the NACA duct and heat extractor do the job of getting cold air in and letting the hot air out.

Although developed for race applications the bonnet hood vent can not just help with keeping the engine cooler, but add some sporty flair to your customised Abarth.

The newer Abarth 695 Assetto Corse Evoluzione, 210bhp, has deleted the NACA duct and re-routed the intake to the front grille (edit M.Aron). Also gone is the heat extraction vent.

If in your own project you are going for this look then there are a range of designs available to help with heat extraction. The dual heat extractor vent as designed by cavallino in Canada is a variation on the original Assetto Corse design.

They also offer a great drip tray solution to keep you engine bay nice and dry, however when it comes to trackday, just unclip the drip tray and off you go!
